Is it over for me? Cut off my group head in traffic.

Was Citibiking from work on Thursday and just as I was a few blocks from my office, I went around a block and didn't see a car approaching until it was too late. I sped across the street to avoid getting hit and got honked at angrily as I forced the driver to quickly brake. I turn to see it's my group head's car (distinctive make) and my heart sinks. He hasn't been in the office due to a business trip but I've been beating myself up ever since. Is it over for me?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's unlikely that this incident alone will be the end of your career. Accidents happen, and while it's an awkward situation, your group head might not even recognize you or connect the dots. If they do, it's best to address it professionally and briefly if it ever comes up. A simple apology like, "I believe I may have caused you some inconvenience in traffic the other day, and I wanted to sincerely apologize for that," can go a long way in showing maturity and accountability.

Remember, people in finance deal with much bigger issues daily, and this is likely a minor blip in the grand scheme of things. Focus on your work, keep delivering results, and don't let this shake your confidence. You're not the first person to have an awkward moment with a senior, and you certainly won't be the last. Keep your head up!
