Is it poor manners to walk to a firm and ask for an initial discussion regarding student opportunities? (Internships, events, etc)

I am a student in downtown Nash and can walk to a few big names in the area. I was planning on walking to an office here and just asking to be put in touch with someone for a future conversation.

I do not want to make a bad impression and certainly don’t want to kill a potential relationship by showing up uninvited. The office is in a huge building here too, so maybe unannounced visitors aren’t welcome.

Thoughts on this?

Just sneak into the office, hop on a computer and show them what you can do. I know multiple people who have received tons of 'attention' after doing that!

Not at all, in fact I’d recommend watching everyone who comes out of the building following them home, breaking in, and then leaving anonymous notes around their apartment for weeks/months before introducing yourself formally. By watching these people closely you will learn a lot about them and be able to network effectively then, they’ll also have a chance to learn more about you through your anonymous notes.

Appreciate the chutzpah, but you're not going to get past the front desk without a meeting invite, and they will absolutely not connect you to someone internally as some rando walking in off the street.

Reach out to people via email. Talk to them on the phone, maybe coffee if they are willing. There are correct ways to go about networking and just showing up at offices is not the way.

how would you feel if a total stranger knocked on your door and asked you for a date? employers want to win the best candidates from their peers. literally hiring people off the street is the opposite of this.

i wouldn't even give you a shred of credit for chutzpah or whatever. This suggests terrible judgment and social skills imo. if you really want to demonstrate enthusiasm, do well in school and be someone banks fight over
