Is the grass greener - med to finance/corporate in UK?
Hi. Throwaway account, not a shitpost. I study medicine at oxbridge and I've just finished my first year. The job market for medicine doesn't really look great at the moment in the UK, what with the comparatively low pay, recent strike announcements, and every smart person I know planning to go Australia/US.
I was a little disillusioned with med when I applied, but that's only grown stronger. Meanwhile finance was in the back of my mind since I was competent enough at maths at high school, and I've been lurking through wso since then. Thing is, from what I hear, it's quite soul-sucking and being honest, my main motivation would be the money. I'm also more intellectually stimulated in science/maths than economics/banking stuff.
Is the grass really greener over at the corporate world? I know people who have done it, jumping shop from med to consulting / IB / quant (granted that one did IMO). I understand I'm in a fortunate situation, but I wanted to hear what you guys thought.
Don’t do it bro
I’m similar doing med at a target, tried finance for a summer and never again.
It’s simply not worth your sanity.
thank you, any plans for med though? or just go through UK and CCT?
