Job search timeline. When to apply??

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone might be able to advise me on an effective job search in New York, given the difficult current job climate. I currently live in Toronto, Canada and attend the University of Waterloo in the mathematics and finance program. My GPA is currently 3.85/4 with 5 courses remaining. As a part of my degree I need to do 6 co-op/internship placements of 4 months each (I am currently doing my fifth and have my sixth lined up starting in May).

I am graduating in December 2021 and hoping to move to New York and start working in January 2022. I have a variety of experiences including as a derivatives trader and an investment associate at two (separate) family offices, an Analyst at CPP Investments (my current position) and an upcoming equity quantitative research position at National Bank Financial.

I was wondering when you think it would be appropriate to start applying to jobs? I am hoping to break into a hedge fund, PE firm, trading role, Asset/Wealth management, etc. My top choices would be the first 3.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
