Junior Summer Internship Recruiting
Some background of me: undergrad junior standing, attending US News top 10 college and target school, internships at PE and consulting firms (not big names) and research experiences, leadership position at 2 large student organizations, good GPA standing with dean's list and scholarship. I was mainly recruiting for IB/PE/HF junior summer internships and applied to 70+ programs, interviewed at 7 firms in 8 months including two final rounds with a boutique bank and large HF, but didn't get any offer. Most of the times I never heard back from companies or not invited to any interviews at all. I looked out for more opportunities in consulting back in September and recently got an offer from a tier 2/large boutique management consulting firm for their summer program. I only practiced a few live casing for one month and didn't even network, but still got an offer after only 1 round interview with senior directors. I also applied to MBB but was rejected instantly by one company and never heard back from the others.
I'm posting because I'm confused about the market and hiring environment right now and needed some advice. I was really frustrated because of my failure in finance recruiting and still don't understand what went wrong. I'm happy with my offer but still deciding whether to accept it. Should I leverage it to approach HRs at MBBs or other firms? Or should I happily take it because of the market condition and wait for better opportunities? I was aiming to go into PE/VC eventually, should I re-recruit for IB/buy-side full time next year or stay with consulting??
