Lateral Move >> Is this appropriate if they have a job opening posted?
Quick background:
Non-Target > BB Middle Office (2yrs) > Startup M&A firm (11 months) > All in a non-finance city.
Deal flow isn't promising at my little shop right now (MD doesn't seem to be a good closer). Combined with the fact that I'm not in a finance city, my career trajectory isn't looking great. Therefore I'm looking to make a move to a bigger firm, in a bigger market.
The point:
Would it be perceived as sleazy/lame/pathetic if I sent this to VP/MDs in groups who have positions posted online already?
*I pulled pieces of this from someone on here a while ago. Forgot who but I gave a SB when I did.

Mr./Ms. [last name],
I am writing to you to see if [bank name] might be interested in taking an [Analyst / Experienced Analyst] in its [industry] team. Currently, I am an Investment Banking Analyst with [firm name], a boutique firm in the [city] area and am looking to map out my next career move to [New York/San Francisco/Chicago] at the beginning of the coming year. My resume is attached for reference and I am available to relocate immediately.
I understand that [bank name] has a formalized recruitment process, but if the [industry] team is currently experiencing high deal flow or growth then I could be of assistance.
Would it be possible to arrange a call? I would be very grateful for an opportunity to discuss this with you.
Thank you,
----
Should I mention that I saw the posted position and that I'm interested? My reasoning for not mentioning it: it comes off like I'm trying to cut in line by probing a decision maker.
Thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks chimps
NOTE: I HAVE networked my ass off since I graduated and know someone at almost every shop in town but haven't had much luck with my attempts in NYC/SF/NYC. The handful of guys I have met, haven't been much help when it comes to introductions.
There is nothing wrong with cutting in line when it comes to finding a job. That aside, my preference would be to replace "might be" with "is" and remove the bit about the formalized recruitment process. Whoever will be considering you would not be overly concerned with whether you're on- or off-cycle; if they need you, they will find a way. It also helps to sound more confident.
