Lateraling into banking
Hi! I’m an incoming analyst who will be starting a full time analyst program at a large well known credit fund. I did the internship because I was interested in the space, and was effectively forced to accept the job because we had 3 days to decide on the offer - so re-recruiting was out of the question. However, after some conversations and discussions with analysts in classes prior, I’ve started to come to the conclusion that investment banking, particularly restructuring, may be better route to my ideal career destination. I’m planning on sticking with the firm for at least a year to see if I’m wrong or if priorities change, but forward looking want to be prepared if I do want to lateral.
How does lateraling into banking work? I have a few firms that seem like good fits, but how would I approach networking/recruiting/etc.
By finding people at those firms and asking them for informational interviews. Then once the market improves they might be able to get your name in the hat.
What are you doing at the credit fund? Understand analyst, but in what capacity?
Why do you think RX aligns more with your career goals? What are your career goals?
