Leaving company: Repayment of a sign-on bonus?

I started working for a large financial institution in January 2018 and received a one-time sign-on payment of $X. I my contract it says: "Should you not be eligible for 2018 year-end discretionary compensation (e.g., by leaving the firm for any reason before fiscal year-end 2018), you will be expected to reimburse the firm for the one-time payment".

The 2018 fiscal year seems to end on September 20, 2018, so my question is: If I leave the firm in October, will I not have to repay the sign-on bonus and will I be eligible for a year-end bonus payment?
