MBA recruiting - IM with IBD as backup?

Hi all,

I'll be attending a T12 program for MBA next year and originally I wanted to get into IM, but know how notoriously difficult this can be. Would it be possible to recruit for IM as a priority and IBD as a backup if that doesn't workout? The only problem that I can see with this is that I hear IBD recruiting starts a lot earlier than IM roles. What would be the best way to approach this situation?
