Military Officer Recruitment Question

Hey all,

I am a frequent reader, infrequent poster. I just had a quick question regarding recruitment after business school for former military officers. I understand that business schools look favorably upon military officers, but my question is more geared towards the perception that banks have of these candidates. Imagine a scenario in which a person graduates from a non-target school in a liberal arts major with a decent GPA and then enrolls in the Marine Corp as an officer before getting an MBA. After business school, if the military experience is the only post-graduate work experience this person has, will he be attractive to banks, or will he lose out to the guys with previous "business" related experience? I hope to head into IBD, ECM, or S&T when I am done with service.

Thanks in advance.

There is a big military network on the street, but they are mostly academy guys. That's irrelevant though because the question is if they look favorably on military experience--which they do. the academy hook-up is better for making contacts.

Have you considered Aston Business School? Aston is 1st in the UK and 5th in the World for career progression in the FT rankings. It can be a good place who wants to swap from their previous career to career in business. Moreover, the business students ranged from 23-40 y.o thus some of them could be just like you not having that extensive experience in business before.

Take a look at this Aston information page: http://businessbecause.com/abs.htm

You also can register in our website to get more info for other business schools or find other people from all over the world who's doing their MBA study
