More difficult: college to IB or IB to PE?
Just curious which field is harder to break into- going from undergrad to IB or from IB analyst to PE associate. Obviously a lot of variables between target vs non target, bank/group, etc. But generally speaking, is it pretty doable to get into PE if you are a decent IB analyst?
Assuming we are only talking about BB/EB and brand name PE, IB to PE is more difficult because you are only competing against the tippy top and these PE funds are lean AF.
Would say college->IB is easier as there are a lot more analyst spots than associates. Unless you're from a super non-target that had to really grind networking to get an IB slot then maybe PE is a bit easier as you're more of a known quantity at that point and should have an easier time getting first rounds than you did for IB.
