Motivation letter for IB
What is a good motivation for an intern to transition from PE to IB. I am struggling to write a solid motivation letter for my switch to sell side (as an intern). Please help me out
Is this a cover letter? If so, nobody reads them, but I’d just mention that you really want to help clients unlock value or something, since sell side is client work as opposed to buyside where you are the client
Yes exactly. Struggling with the "why M&A" part. "Unlocking value" seems so vague. I want to make it more concrete and don't want to come up with a bullshit story. I am a non-finance non-target school student who has managed to gain 2 prior PE internships
I think you could add a bit to the “unlocking value” point by saying you want to help companies through pivotal transactions that could change the direction of their business and unlock new opportunities. If it’s a middle market firm, you could also talk about working with founders, or if it’s a larger bank, working on industry changing deals.
