Moving internally

Thinking of switching jobs soon and there may be an internal opening on a different team in a different department. Any suggestions for how to approach my boss about transferring?

Usually, you have exploratory meetings with the new team to see if there’s a decent fit before you formally apply for the job. This is to prevent your current boss getting in a tizzy for no reason and polluting his/her perception of your commitment to your current role.

Dang I remember getting some good info from your Credit Analyst AMA like 2 years ago, sorry to hear it's not working out (or that the work isn't interesting anymore). To your original question, how is your relationship with your boss? With internal transfers your current manager is going to basically be the make or break point as far as transferring is concerned.

Thanks! More like I just have started to realize I might want to be in something more computational. My relationship with my boss is generally good (I got promoted so that's a good sign!).
