Name this job

Hi guys

Wise people say we should always be able to recognize our talent, but I am not sure whether what you like and what you are talented for go hand in hand.

Is there something in IB that let you express your ability to know how to talk with people? I would say something between a salesman and an investment banker... Someone suggested me S&T but probably starting a career in S&T is not a good idea (lack of contents?).. Tell me what are your thoughts on this, thank you.

S&T and M&A are two entirely different sectors, it’s hard to do one and jump to the other as people aren’t typically receptive of that switch. It’s like being a racecar driver as an entry level to neuroscience, they’re just not that related. If you hate one or the other as an intern you can potentially jump, but that’s about it.

S&T you don’t do much as an intern (mostly shadowing and probably a big project) because you’re not licensed, so perhaps that’s where the idea of not much to do comes from. However once you’re full time you get licensed quickly, and you will have plenty of work.

S&T is also a different lifestyle, more social floor and your hours are regular. IB is more individual work and not much interaction. If you can find some alumni emails from your school and pick their brains on their work I’ve found it’s the best way to align your goals to a career.
