Negotiating Start Date
Junior level.
I was not selected in the work visa lottery and have to leave the US. I am moving to an office of the firm in another country. Unfortunately, that office's offer is to start a month from yesterday, which seems too soon for the following reasons -
1) I have not been back home in two years and am very homesick. In-between jobs would have been a perfect time to visit family. I had other offers that allowed time for a trip back home, so it is painful to accept not going home for another half year (despite it being the most desired offer).
3) I have two more weeks at the US firm, so I'll get less than two weeks in between jobs.
4) In those less than two weeks, I am going to be changing countries with all the logistics and stress coming with that.
5) I'm studying for the CFA in December. Having that time off would help make up for time spent preparing for interviews, handling logistics, and looking for apartments etc.
6) This has all been a tiring process, and I fear burnout soon if I start in less than a month.
How do I negotiate a later start date without it sounding like I'm lazy, desperate, or burnt out already? They mentioned immigration policies have to do with it, but the immigration team already said I can leave the US once they process my documents.
