Networking approach with my friend's uncle
This Saturday, my close friend and his parents are meeting up with his uncle. My friend’s uncle is the head of a commercial bank branch. My friend told me that his uncle previously offered him summer or winter intern positions, but he didn’t take it because he was not interested in banking. It was when we were having a lunch together that I heard about the fact that he had a close network on this area.
He told me that if I send my resume to him, he will bring it to the seat and talk about it with his uncle. Will it be appropriate to send my resume in this case? Or will it be better just to let my friend introduce me orally?
Well, I guess there’s nothing to lose by sending my resume, but I’m worried if it could be inappropriate.
Can somebody please give me an advice?
Thanks
Your friend should talk about you, what you're interested in and any relevant skills, experience you have. He should recommend you as a great intern candidate. If the uncle thinks you sound interesting, he should offer to have you email the uncle your resume.
You should prep your friend ahead of time with the key points he should make. Give him a few bullet points, which essentially is what you'd incluce in your elevator pitch. He'll be able to easily talk about your character, but he may be less familiar with the types of work you've done or other steps you've taken to get smart about banking.
When you send the uncle your resume, your note in the email should have your elevator pitch in it. Take a look at this to see what I mean: What is an Elevator Pitch and Why is it Important? - http://bit.ly/3xfuiB
