Networking Question

Hi Guys,

A few months ago I had a coffee chat with a Partner at a decent-sized but no-name hedge fund (he's a family friend). The chat went well and I followed up with an email thanking him for his time. What is the best way to keep this relationship maintained and ask for another call in the next week or two? Also, he used to be the head of global investment banking at a number of BB's and I was wondering if it would be okay to tactfully ask if he could refer me to some of his (probably great) connections at these banks.
