Networking: Target vs Non-target

I come from a non-target and I have found that, for me, it's much easier to network with other non-target (mostly not from my university). I have to say that many times they can relate to my position because of the initial ignorance most had regarding finance in general (a position I found myself in when I joined uni). Regardless, I have had a much higher success rate with non-targets.

I just wondered how others have found it. Do those come from a target uni experience the opposite?

Not necessarily relating to IB.
