Networking w/ someone in Sales & Trading if interested in IBD

Currently networking to get into IBD. Have a chance to network with an MD of a Sales & Trading group. Is it appropriate for me to talk to him/her even if my interest is IBD? Benefits?

This past fall I networked with a director in equity sales at a US MM/Can. BB and she said she would have been able to get an interview in the IBD had it not been too late at that bank (for SA rec.). Ultimately I had an interview in S&T which I totally bombed because I was improperly prepared. Granted this wasn't a cold contact so I don't know how 'offensive' it might seem to ask about IBD if that's the situation you're in.

Yes. Go for it and just be honest. If nothing else it will better help you understand the differences in each job and you will be better able to articulate it by referencing specific conversations you've had.
