Networking with Investment Bankers
I am currently a Sophomore in College and have been networking (Hoping on Phone Calls with investment bankers). I am trying to secure my first investment banking internship, but have no idea how to ask for an interview/internship without sounding like I am begging. I tell them through email I would love to learn more about their experience and internship program, but how can I transition the conversation during the phone call into asking for an interview/internship?
At least not for all but the smallest of banks. If you're networking now to get a job at a boutique IB firm, you should ask something like "Do you have any plans to take interns next summer?" or whatever at the end of the call.
If you're trying to network for a middle-market, independent advisory, or bulge bracket firm, do not bring up interviews/internships directly. The point of networking calls is to build your network and make connections. People then know you exist, and if they like you, they'll refer you. Trying to force it at a large firm will backfire
