Non-standard Cold Emailing

Hi Monkeys,
after using the search function and browsing to cold-mailing discussions, I realized that my case is not answered and thus i start this thread:

The situation is the following:

A contact of mine, wrote to a MD of Country A asking if they are looking for Analysts in Country B. The Country A MD forwarded the mailadress of the Country B MD, saying that I shall ask him whether they are looking for people in country B.
However, the Counry A MD did neither allow nor forbid me to mention that he was the one who gave the mailadress. (he made no statement about it)
Furthermore the mailadress is not publicly available.

Questions
1. Do i need to disclose my source of the mailadress?
I guess it would add value, if I would mention it. But first I should request permission from Country A MD, right?

2. Should the style for the mail be similar to the style of normal cold-mails?like:
-no resume attached
-no coverletter attached
-just 5 lines with who I am, universities, workXP and why I want to work there

Thanks for any helpful advice!!

First of all, way to be proactive with the networking there. having someone willing to put you in touch with MDs is definitely going to give you a leg up going forward.

To answer your question, definitely let Country B MD know where you got his email from, and give due credit to Country A MD. you shouldn't have to ask if he's the one who gave you the email. as far as the email itself goes, I would attach your resume for sure. it just puts things in context and gives them something to forward on should they be interested.

A cover letter might be over the top. I believe including a 1 page resume along with a short spiel of who referred you, who you are and why you're contacting them should work well. don't forget to mention that you'll follow up with a phone call because emails like this get "lost" often so you'll need to retain that proactive attitude and just chase up the request periodically without being annoying. good luck

if you're looking for an analyst position you could always say that you did a lot of research and got the email address that way which shows how good you are at due diligence!

But on a serious note, just say MD A gave it to you.

ok, thats already very helpful! thx!!

I was already so far beyond the point of no return that I couldn't remember what it had looked like when I had passed it.
