Non-target: Leave off school in email?
Hey all,
Just a looking for a few opinions if you have a moment.
I go to a non-target and I have a list of HR emails that I would like ask about summer internships. Up until this point, I have always included which school I go to.
Should I leave that off considering I am a non-target?
I guess my thinking is that being a non-target might give them one more reason on top of the rest to ignore me. But at the same time, would it be weird to not have it?
I am also contacting others, if possible, not in HR - in case someone brings that up.

I think it's a good idea, for completeness to mention you are studying xxx degree at yyy university. They may end up asking you anyway.

Ya.. You don't have a choice but to include it. I have gotten one line replies from HR people with things like "What is your gpa?", "What school?", etc.
Also, Unless you're applying to places that have a strict HR policy, you should be sending emails out to MD's, VP's and the like as they will talk to you and be able to forward your resume on to HR with a recommendation instead of HR just scanning it and saying you don't meet the requirements.
Can you not try to reach out to people in front office instead? HR (depending on the quality of its people) could follow a very black and white approach towards evaluating resumes - like checking off a list of haves and have-nots (gpa, school reputation, work experience, etc). Unless you have a resume that's a very obvious winner (like great work exp to counter the non-target school), I don't think you'll have much success with HR. Conversely, someone from front office may decide to take a cold email meeting/call request or entertain your resume if you execute well or catch them on a good day.
Ok - Thank you everyone for the advice. I'll go ahead and just keep my non-target in my short introduction.
I have been doing my best to reach out to alumni / MDs and VPs that have similar backgrounds as me with some success. However, I have not been able to get in contact with every bank that way - which is why I asked my question.
I'll keep trying on all fronts and really appreciate your help,

I always put school especially if you are a student.. If you say "I am a Junior Finance major".. the instinctive first question is "Where at?" If you are working then you get to say "I am a 2nd year Analyst" so where you went to school isn't the immediate question
