Not getting anywhere with bigger shops that I want an off-cycle at, should I just cold call/go in person?

To preface, I am currently networking. Contacted around 100+ people at larger banks, bigger firms etc. Currently doing an off cycle at a boutique IB as well. The thing is, I know these larger PE/HF/IB firms give out off cycle internships. I want to do as much as I can and I reached out to alum at these shops but they keep saying either "I don't know" or "it happens occasionally" and then they leave it at that. I KNOW for a fact that these satellite offices do take off cycle interns and I do want an internship there. These shops have mostly ivy league grads so I can only email a certain part of the population (which I did). My question is, should I start picking up the phone and contacting specific people at the offices? And, should I just go in person and drop off a resume?

Well there you go. What do you have that makes you set yourself apart from other candidates from top-tier institutions with strong gpa, brand names, and etc.?
