NYC Financial Services Job Search Advice / Direction
Hey WSO Readers - I've been a lurker for some time now and have always found value in the responses to posts so figured I would try it out myself.
I'm seeking career advice as I recently stepped away from an Expert Network in NYC after 2.5 years helping grow it to be a competitor of the big dogs (GLG, AS, TB, etc.). I led client relationships and niche-industry project research for PE/VC clients and got a deep understanding of how to properly source, vet, and deliver experts to clients in a timely manner; as well as sharpen my verbal, written communications and presentation skills. I wore a ton of hats during my time there and ultimately developed strong soft skills, got a solid understanding of PE/VC deal flow, learned to work around the clock, can effectively communicate with any hierarchy of professional, and became proficient in understanding compliance procedures.
Prior to moving to NYC, I played 2 years of pro football and made the transition from pro sports to NYC financial services seamlessly. I'm originally from the midwest and played football at a small school in Indiana so my network of peers in the financial world (especially NYC) is not huge. However, I have a solid resume, athlete mindset of outworking my peers/competitors, and strong communication/soft skills. I've been targeting Investor Relation roles at VC firms and have been keeping my eye open for expert-research/relations roles as well and have not found much luck.
If any readers out there have any advice for possible career routes or companies that would value these skills, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
