OCR First Round Interviews - "Drop by in case someone cancels"

I was referred to one of the alumni involved with recruiting on campus for his bank through a mutual contact and, when he heard I had missed the resume drop, he told me to drop by on interview day and they'd slot me in for an interview if someone cancelled. Is this a genuine door cracked open or is he just being nice? I know that he could have simply told me "tough luck." I'm debating showing up ready to interview and spending the day there in case of the rare possibility anyone does cancel/not show up (highly unlikely). The person who referred me said that if I show initiative and hunger, they may even interview me even if there isn't a cancellation. Another person (not in the industry, but in b-school) told me that it was a little weird. I have no qualms about staking out the place, but I also don't want to create an awkward situation where they're thinking "who the f is this girl and why is she STILL here? Make her leave!!" It's for a BB S&T SA position.

it Did sound weird as i read it but when I got to the part where it said you're a girl, not to be sexist, but that probably played a factor. good luck in the interview.

To clarify, I don't have an interview. The alumni simply told me to drop by and they'd slot me in if someone cancelled. The firm hasn't even seen my resume or met me. To be honest, I don't even know if he knows I'm a girl unless my contact mentioned something in the introduction email. My contact originally thought I was a guy until he heard my voice on the phone for the first time lmao.

is the recruitment alumni going to be there? try to find out, if he is then by all means it doesn't hurt to go. show up early and introduce yourself referencing your contact. be prepared for an interview, and ready to to put up a great first impression socially, ie. don't come off desperate.

it doesn't hurt to give it a try, worse case scenario you feel a bit awkward and don't get an interview.

vs if you don't go and that recruiter follows up with your contact to ask where you were, you then just blew a good potential foot in the door by shying away...

I believe so based off the wording of the email. He also CCd his response to someone else at the company. They're doing interviews from 8 - 5 at our Career Services Center. Right now, I'm thinking to show up at 7:30am (dressed and ready to interview with copies of my resume) and ask if anyone cancelled. If they say that no one has cancelled yet, would it be weird/stalkerish/creepy if I waited just in case someone happened to not show up? I can't tell if that shows I'm hungry and eager or just awkward. Would it be less awkward since I'm a girl?

ginginmuleNo one cancelled, but they saw me during one of the breaks!!

and then what? lol

They interviewed me. I have no clue about results though. I just got dinged from another bank... it was my first interview ever and I was terrified and showed it. Fucking deer in headlights.

ginginmuleI got final round. Crazy.

I know this is sort of an old thread, but what happened?? Congrats regardless on at least being able to make it to final round without an interview lol.

Because when you're in a room full of smart people, smart suddenly doesn't matter—interesting is what matters.
