Off-Cycle Internship, not a thing in the US?

I'm currently looking for a 6 month internship in the US, however it came to my attention that most of the firms didn't have any position open until summer of 2024/2025, are Winter and Spring internships not a thing in the US. Maybe I'm too late to apply or early? I didn't really find any further information online, any insight would be pleasant.

Furthermore is Cold calling when looking for an internship still a thing in this day and age or are the 2010's already so far away?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems that off-cycle internships do exist in the US, particularly in the fall. An incoming analyst at CS NY had their start date deferred until February and was considering a fall off-cycle internship to stay busy and learn something new. They were considering reaching out to BB / EB / MM banks or MM /UMM funds that offer fall off-cycle internships.

As for your question about cold calling, it can still be a viable strategy. While it might seem a bit old-fashioned, it's all about showing initiative and standing out from the crowd. If you're polite, professional, and have done your research about the company and the role you're interested in, it could potentially open doors for you.

Remember, the key to securing an internship is to be proactive, network effectively, and demonstrate your interest and commitment to the role and the industry. Good luck!
