Offer Grades below 2:1

Recently received a return offer for a graduate role following SA in London. I was expecting to receive a 2:1 for my degree but recently worried that I might miss this by a small margin (classifying me as a 2:2). This is partly due to some personal issues throughout my degree.

Wondering if this has happened to anyone before and whether offers got rescinded because of this?

Any help is much appreciated!

Ah, the classic tale of academic hiccups meeting the high-finance world. Based on the most helpful WSO content, this is a situation that's not entirely uncommon. Here's what you might consider:

  1. Communicate Proactively: Reach out to HR and explain your situation. Transparency is key, and if you have extenuating circumstances, it's important to share them. They might take these into consideration.

  2. Leverage Your Network: If you performed well during your Summer Analyst stint, it might be helpful to get in touch with your previous team. They could potentially advocate for you if they valued your work.

  3. Prepare for Plan B: While you should hope for the best, it's wise to prepare for the worst. Start considering alternative paths or backup options in case things don't go your way.

  4. Know the Policies: Every bank has its own policies. Some might be strict about the 2:1 requirement, while others may have more leeway. Understanding where your firm stands can help you gauge your chances.

Remember, you're not the first to face this hurdle, and you won't be the last. Keep your chin up, and let's hope your personal issues and past performance can sway things in your favor. Swing from those vines with confidence, but have a safety net ready, just in case!
