Offer Help: JPM vs MS vs GS
I need your advice on how to go about these offers. The offers are not group specific, but I will have the opportunity to preference groups later on in the spring. The offers are all in IBD, and I understand that all three are great companies to work for, but I am struggling to choose between them. Thanks!
The three firms are all roughly in the same league for IBD overall (some would argue that GS is better overall). *
There's a decent chance you might be working for or with one of your interviewers. Did any firm stand out as having people you'd like to work with or not like to work with?
*:This is coming from a capital markets guy, so my opinion is to be taken with a grain of salt for IBD.
GS! And congrats, all 3 offers, thats some feat!

Even if you're working at GS, though, two years is a long time to spend in banking if you don't like the people you work with. (You will see them for the equivalent of four years of full time work over two years). If you hated the folks at GS, I still think it's better to go with MS or JPM. You've gotten admits at three of probably the five best firms for IBD, so there's still plenty of opportunities at MS or JPM if you're not sure you'll like it at Goldman.
Because this is SA and GS's conversion rate is horrible, I would go with MS.
Choose MS or JP
Use the offers to get guaranteed group placements. ie, call MS and tell them you will take their offer over GS and JPM if they guarantee you M&A group. Same for GS TMT, etc
you are in a very good position, congrats. IMO you can't go wrong with GS, and like milominderbinder said, use your MS offer to pressure GS for their TMT.
Congratulations. Take a chance and show some confidence in yourself and you will be rewarded. GS all the way.
The most important thing is to secure a full time position, therefore choose the bank with the highest conversion ratio.
generally agree. depends on your risk tolerance. some of the more competitive groups have much lower conversion rates.
which location?
GS is leagues ahead of the others
Back in the '80s, Drexel-Burnham was the bank to work for. In the late '90s, in accounting, it was Arthur Anderson. "Prestigiousness" can change overnight; what matters most is that you're at a firm with brilliant people and you enjoy working with them. I can say that JPM, GS, and MS all have brilliant people, and when you get to a certain level, it gets hard to compare skill and expertise, so you can only talk about who's doing well at the very moment.
