Pre-MBA internship opportunities

I have been on here for a while, but more of a reader than a regular poster.

So it is safe to say I will be starting school next fall. I have recently been admitted into a top-10 FT MBA program and am currently in the process of submitting R2 applications.

Has anyone be successful at landing a Pre-MBA internship? If yes, what were the strategies found to be successful in navigating this opaque, unstructured sector? I am particularly interested in VC after MBA so I'd like to get my feet wet before school starts. (I am interesting in a Pre-MBA internship in PE or VC)

I did a pre-MBA internship (IB not PE/VC). My guess is its a similar process. Try reaching out to alumni of the business school at those type of firms. You will have a better chance at smaller firms that generally have less structured recruiting. If you are very serious about getting the experience (and have the resources available) be prepared to accept an unpaid position. I think its definitely worth it, it has been very useful for my recruiting on campus.
