Probably violated firm NDA, worried about reference checks finding something. Will they?

I'm a little panicked here. I left a boutique RE firm a while ago on the east coast on decent terms. After leaving, I used a work sample I created partially on firm time to network. I got an offer from a midsize firm a couple of weeks ago, but the firm I'm getting an offer with saw the work sample and was impressed by it, and I think that was fairly integral to my offer. I'm worried that now that I'm going through reference checks, my reference will bring it up somehow.

I left the previous one on good terms, and the work is all mine - I didn't use any proprietary firm owned information other than their equipment and time, and I'm pretty sure they never used it after I left, However, my boss knows that I worked on it, he thought it was fairly good and probably the project has some significant mindshare for him in terms of thinking about me even if the entire firm didn't feel the same, and he will be the one giving the reference. Am I in danger?

I know this was dumb and stupid, I'm never doing anything like this again, I was desperate and eager. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No I didn't, I put in significant time outside of work on it, and there's no identifying information that any of it had to do with my previous firm. Noted on the don't make it a habit, I absolutely won't.
