So I've been talking to this alum at a BB over email. I've visited the firm and he arranged for me to meet some of his colleagues. I've applied to the BB's summer program through on-campus recruiting already, but would it be okay if I asked him to forward my resume to hr?
It seems you have developed a repoir with this alum and believe the alum knows what you want! Kindly ask him to recommend you to HR by forwarding your resume. Or better yet, see if he can get your resume to the hiring manager in a specific group.
I would recommend not being too forward about it, though. Just reiterate your interest in the firm and any opportunities that may be available over the summer.
I disagree with Gatsby. If you want something, be forward and ask for it. You've already developed a relationship with this manager, so there's no need to tiptoe around what you're looking for. Tan86 got it right; your alum knows exactly what you're looking for. He/She's just waiting for you to ask for it.
I don't think too many alumni would just come to you and say "hey, give me your resume and i'll pass it on". Gotta take the initiative on this one, and it shouldn't be a problem since you have a good relationship anyways.
Sounds like you've already got a relationship with him, and given he's already putting you in contact with his colleagues, I'm sure he's willing to pass along your resume. All you need to do is ask politely. Just let him know that you're really interested in the BB and if it's possible for him to fwd the resume along.
And if you're meeting his colleagues - I would bring copies of your resume along. Generally people will ask for them, or are curious anyway.
