PSA: Unsolicited Interview Scheduling Advice For College Students
College students going through the recruiting process for a job in finance or honestly any corporate position. One piece of unsolicited advice on a pet peeve I can almost guarantee the person on the other side of the email will have.
If an interviewer or HR member is trying to set up an interview and asks for your availability over the next x number of days or weeks. PLEASE DO NOT respond with a single time that works for you. Please send several windows.
Similarly, if an interviewer offers you 20 hours of timeslots and asks for your shared availability, do not respond with a single time, make an effort to understand what time ranges work best for you. I just emailed 10 students asking for their availability to schedule an interview and offered ~20 hours of availability. Two of those students responded saying that a single time works for them...
Luckily I am scheduling my own interviews but this is the bane of an HR's existence. The person interviewing is likely on the team you are recruiting for. If they're senior, an interview is likely not their primary obligation. They need OPTIONS.
Separately, best of luck to all as the interview season launches at an ever more ridiculous time in your college career.
