Quant trader straight out of undergrad? Or am I being foolish
I've scoured WSO and google searches on becoming a quant straight out of undergrad, and it seems either of these 2 things:
1) Major in applied mathematics and/or computer science
2) Get a PhD or go to grad school in a mathematics and computer-science intensive field
Would I still have a chance if I majored in Finance and minored in either applied mathematics or computer science? Or is it absolutely necessary to major in these two fields?
I'd rather major in finance and computer science but you can major in math and CS then go for an MFe. The whole finance stuff can be learned in your free time and internships.
Entry Level Quant Fin Positions (Originally Posted: 11/06/2011)
Hi all,
I'll be graduating in May and I'm currently looking for a job. I can't stand banking hours, don't have the personality for trading, and really like math. That being said, I'm looking to get into quant finance but I am a lowly undergrad. What do entry level positions in quant finance look like for those right out of undergrad? Do they even exists or are these positions reserved for grad school recruiting?
Im going to apply to a masters program in a year or two and I want to have applicable work experience. I'm thinking anything risk management related but I don't want to be stuck in the back office. What are typical front office entry level quant fin position like, who are the employers of these people (only HF and BBs i guess?), and what do they look for generally?
Idk who has informed you but quant analysts work brutal hours as well. Applicable front office work experience would be fixed income trading. Very very small chance you get a job title as quant anything with a bachelors.
