quick networking questions

Hi guys, two questions I’d appreciate feedback on:

  1. who should you be networking with at an investment bank? obviously the higher the better, but associates do resume review. so if I email and connect with a MD or analyst that isn’t part of the recruiting process, will I still get an interview?

  2. what should the email title be when you’re emailing people from diff schools but a common background - should it include your common background in title ?

thx

Not sure about the first question but in terms of your second, I usually put the background that we share in the subject line which I have found to be pretty successful. My subject usually reads “ “Insert adjective we share in common” student interested in “insert area of finance””

what I meant by the first question was that not all analysts or managing directors are involved with the recruiting process. so is it OK if I network with any analyst or MD or should I refine it to those in the recruiting process only? if the latter, how do I figure who’s involved lol
