Reaching out after applying for an internship/job

Applied to a couple internships and full-time positions over the last week in capital markets which I am confident I fit and exceed the job requirements. I have noticed that the companies I have applied to have alumni from the same school I graduated from. Now, should I send them a cold email and ask for a coffee to try and get an interview or my resume pushed. If so, what should I say in the email? Do I mention I have applied, or wait and hope I get a coffee out of it?

Thanks for the help

I think you'll get different opinions on this but I think you can reach out and do a traditional networking email. Forgive the typos - I can't bring myself to care haha.

Hi So and So,

My name is Disney Disciple and I am a sophomore at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry majoring in a Finance. Through my involvement in whatever I have developed an interest in capital markets. During the course of my research I have come across, XYZ firm and developed an interest in applying to summer internships due to XYZ defining factor. If you have any availability I would love to have the chance to speak with you and learn more about your experience working at XYZ firm.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Disney Disciple
