Return to BB after quitting due to mental health?! How to?!

Hi everyone,

really appreciate your help on something.

I was working for a BB in a non-US office in IBD. After a few months there, I got mental health problems that also impacted my performance and I thought I should go to a less stressful industry to work on my issues.

So I quit to go for a corporate finance job since I thought that is where I have the WLB to address my issues - however, in my market you normally stay a few months after your notice and that is what I did. In this time, I worked on my mental health and resolved my problems (also with therapy) and my performance became very good so that the MD I was working for told me that if I wanted to return at some point in the future (he guessed like 1-2 years), I should give him a call.

I never told him about my mental health problems and now that I started the new job, I am really regretting leaving, especially since I realized during my last months that I could work on my mental health even while being in IB if they were ever to return.
My new job is boring and slow and I would give anything to go back to IBD as soon as possible (was at the BB for about a year).

Do you have any advice what I should do?

Thanks guys!

Do you have the MD’s contact info? Reach out. Odds are they noticed you were getting burned out. Questions you don’t need to answer but think about. How much was the job impacting your mental health? If you went back, would it start again? How much of a better life are you really guaranteed vs going somewhere and earning slightly less but being above the general population? Have you factored in treatment along with long hours? How severe of a break was it? Is it worth going through that again? Would it be better to use your previous employer for a solid reference?

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.
