Return offer apprehension
I’ve spent the past several months browsing WSO. Some threads have been extremely informative and others have made my midsection ache from laughter. This is a great forum and I wish I knew about it a long time ago.
This will be my first post. I was fortunate enough to land a (now virtual) summer internship at an investment manager. The office where I’ll be interning is smaller, only about 20-25 people. There are only about 5-6 junior people (analyst or associate level) that I assume I will be working with mostly. Everyone I have met so far during interviews and coffees was very nice and seemed to like me. This will seem like the professional version of kiss and tell, but I can easily see myself working there full-time after I graduate next year based on what I have seen of their culture, the location, and nature of the work.
The reason for the post is the following. I really want to give myself a good shot at getting a return offer. Here are a few questions that may guide your comments if you care to drop one below.
1. What are return offer statistics for situations like mine? (Not necessarily looking for exact numbers, that would be impossible)
-
What can I do to make myself stand out and be liked by my coworkers with all my interactions being virtual? Should I just set up calls with everyone and make sure everyone knows who I am?
-
How do I balance appearing competent and intelligent but also humble and self-aware as my place as the intern who’s just there to take busy work off my coworkers’ plates?
I know this post may be extremely cringe but this is my first big boy full-time finance internship and I don’t want to mess this up. Please help.
