maybe it was an NYU dorm? They were pretty strict with guests the whole of last year

Honestly it doesn't matter too much now to speculate what is going on. I agree with the associate below that you should start thinking about how to move forward and limit the damage to your career as much as possible.

Something doesn't add up here... why would a CEO give a flying fuck about this...

If this is true, just put "Summer 2022" on your resume (to avoid saying "June-July" or something shady sounding) and start grinding for FT. No reason anyone needs to know about it - if they ask why no FT offer you have markets to blame anyway, be vague and say you got along well with everyone and reviews were good but spot just wasn't there for you

I’m honestly still in complete shock and utterly dumbfounded. check out my reply to retrorally, story seemed to have gotten majorly twisted around. anyway thats the only thing I can think of, been wracking my brain for another explanation. HR wouldn’t tell me a single thing only that I was terminated because of a comment that had been said.

If you got terminated for this then you don’t want to work for them and they did you a favor.  My guess is the CEO drew a parallel on you not following “no guest” policy as someone who potentially would not follow internal corporate policy - think confidential information

In your opinion, you think its best not to tell the story? I feel like people might be slightly sympathetic considering the story doesn’t entirely seem worthy of a firing offense but I have no idea

no definitely do NOT tell the story and do not under any circumstances say you were fired or left early. FWIW it's not that bad of a story and I don't think it was THAT inappropriate to share, but saying you got fired from an internship is an auto ding so be very vague with "summer 2022" on resume, and vague reason for no return offer

your next bank will almost certainly never find out about this unless you tell them, or they happen to know someone in the group. for background check they do a 30 second call to confirm if you worked at the bank from X date to Y date (through HR or a third party verification company) and will not hear about an intern being let go. so do not tell them.

Was this Jefferies? Only UMM bank where I can think of an intern that would get to have lunch with the CEO. I know because I got to meet him last summer during my internship - Honestly sucks that this happened to you and really hoping this isn't JefCo but UMM + CEO stuff checks out there.

Anyways, I agree with the others - cover this up and still mention Summer 2022 for your internship. Good thing is you now have all the time to network and ring up connections old and new.

Hey, just following up on this thread because I am in somewhat of a similar situation where my freshman internship at a BB PWM got terminated early due to external causes. Is it okay for people to just put a season on the resume like Summer 2022? Will that raise eyebrows? Otherwise, I would have to put June 2022 to July 2022 and that does not look very good.

Have any time for a call later? Can pm you but would love to hear any advice you might have for me, pretty devastated over the whole thing

I heard about this the other day. Story must have been twisted since it was conveyed as you bragging about having multiple girls over to CEO. Also heard something about expensing a “client” dinner as an intern lmao. Not sure if there’s any truth to that one or not. Best of luck

Never expensed anything of that nature. Heard the same about the story, truly devastating that I couldn’t even defend my name because I almost remember very clearly that I had said they were a couple buddies from school.

What a fucking joke of a firm, you don’t want to work there anyway that is unbelievably soft. Also hilarious that you pay rent yet there is a “no guest policy” what is this? a middle school sleepover dorm? Totally feel for you don’t sweat it and run it back next summer at another firm. You will laugh about this story in 10 years looking back. Also fuck rich handler the guy is a complete tool, if a gun were to my head I would guess it was that guy who thinks he is “hip with the kids” yet snitches on a 20/21 year old intern what a pussy. Keep your head up champ the stars didn’t align with this one.
