SA pending misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession

Recently charged with misdemeanor possession under 1 oz of marijuana. Wasn't arrested or fingerprinted, just given citation, in my state this apparently doesn't create a criminal record, but I'm worried that this will show up on my BB SA background check and get my offer rescinded. Anyone else go through a similar experience/know people who did?

This is not good. Not everyone gets to work in the position they want, that's why background checks exist. If you're really serious about working in this field then you need to live a life that keeps you clear of nonsense like this. Your offer should be rescinded and the smart ones will learn from this experience.

seriously? it's 2020 and you hold this opinion?

granted, yes, it's stupid. but you literally have 0 details of the situation and have to refrain from judging. what is the value-add of your comment?

lets jump to another conclusion. you're a buzzkill.

You may think I'm a buzzkill, but that's led to a great career - I guarantee that you'd switch places with me in a heartbeat :-)

Yes, people still do care and those people will interview you and those people will put you through background checks. What are you going to do about it?

Thanks for this. Did she end up passing the background check without them questioning her about it?

This is a coward move by all involved. If pot isn't such a big deal and its normal then why are you so afraid of being associated with it? A brave person would say "yes this happened, this is who I am and I still want to apply to X position". The fact that you hide and show embarrassment over it means you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Let's show some maturity here.

You might be able to get it off your record through community service but you will have to hire a lawyer that’s probably going to charge you some good money you will have to drop. I had a buddie of mine with this same problem and managed to get it off his record.
