Seeking Advice and Resources to Prepare for PwC Audit Internship

Hi everyone,

Over the last 4 months, I made the decision to switch my major to accounting, and I’ve been lucky enough to receive offers from two Big 4 firms. I ended up accepting PwC, and while I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity, I am committed to going above and beyond during the course of my internship. That being said, I’m feeling a bit underprepared for the real-life tasks I’ll be expected to handle (starting to feel the four months, lol).

I’m reaching out to those who have worked in audit at a Big 4 firm—what specific tasks did you handle as an intern? From what I know so far, it has been suggested that I may be involved in tasks like:

  • Reviewing and verifying financial data for consistency
  • Identifying and reporting payment gaps or anomalies in financial statements
  • Writing risk assessment memos and other audit-related documentation
  • Possibly assisting in fieldwork or testing internal controls

I’m trying to get a better sense of the day-to-day responsibilities so I can hit the ground running. It was mentioned that we will attend intern networking events—how can I make the most out of them? Also, how do I figure out the differences in auditing different industries? (e.g., oil and gas vs. private equity). Additionally, if anyone has suggestions for free resources that would help me prepare for tasks like these—whether that’s books, courses, or websites—I would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and I’m grateful for any advice or tips you can share!
