Seeking advice - Any advice?

Hey,

I need to find a job. I have 4 years of total experience spanning HF research and real estate underwriting. I am currently not working. Most recently I worked in real estate, but I would prefer to head back towards a more formal research role such as Equity Research etc... I can't seem to get any interviews, I've been out of work for 5 months now and I am doing everything I can to get job leads, any advice out there.

Thanks,

John

If you don't have a profile on Linkedn, get on Linkedin. You will be able to connect with your former co-workers and alumni network.

I'm on LinkedIn, I hit the alumni boards, cold calling, cold emailing etc..... The two interviews I've had I made it to the final rounds in both but obv did not connect. I know its a numbers game but geez send out hundreds of resumes hear back from two, I don't like those numbers.....

I also hear that it's better to find another job while you're currently in another job (I think the easier getting another girl when you have one already analogy was used on this forum earlier). Real Estate is picking up here in the tristate area (I did summer jobs in Real Estate Investment and situation seems better), so you can try getting a stopgap job there first and then trying your luck to move into research related things.

My 2 cents, hope they helped.

It's definitely easier to find a job when you have one. I would surely take a job in real estate or really anything tangentially related to finance or real estate, but it's not like they are giving them out left and right. I am very flexible, I would really take any position within finance - back office to front office. I actually think my experience on the principal investing side is working against me, I've had people tell me this job is not for you, you will get bored, yada yada yada. I've considered changing my resume but then i'm just complicating things by extending the truth. I know theres no magic answer, but im wondering if any others are in a similar position and what they did to get out of this rut.
