Sell Side BB to Sell Side??

Hey Everyone,

Wanted to get some opinions on a recent opportunity that came across.

I currently work in a Middle Office Role @ a BB for 2.5yrs now. I support Sales-Traders across multiple desks. Initially took this role in efforts that I may be able to transition to a desk but it was made pretty clear that sun has set a while ago at this bank. Middle office just doesn't move onto trading desks anymore, or there's so much politics involved only way is knowing a big wig up the food chain (in my case I dont). As with many banks, its seems this role is on its way out the door to some satellite office in bumblefck nowhere. So therefore I may see a train coming, but definitely not going to sit here to get on it. We also used to sit relatively close to the multiple desks we support however now its pretty much we sit in the corner of the floor next to the ice machine.... far as hell from everyone else. (most of you know what im talking about when you walk on a trading floor and wonder WTF those ppl do sitting in the corner...). Opportunity here seems non-existent. anymore.

I recently had an opportunity of a potential similar role @ a smaller bank. Definitely a lower bracket in the US and Decent player in Canada. Since this is a smaller shop (still sell side) the role of "middle office/Trade Support" falls into the hazy title of "trading assistant" This move would be somewhat lateral in the terms of product and type of position however it seems there is more opportunity there.

Would this opp be good to use as a stepping stone to perhaps in a yr or 2 jump into a solid junior trader/TA role? Any comments would be very appreciated.

Shit what area are you working in exactly (is it actually just called middle office or is it a level of ops)? I was thinking about applying for middle office BB jobs next year but whatever role you have doesn't seem like a good area to get into based on where you said it's heading. Sorry I can't be of any help.
