Should I give up, bad GPA
I had a terrible first semester and got a 2.5 gpa. Even if I get all A's for my remaining 2 semesters before recruiting starts i'll be at a 3.49 gpa, which rounds to a 3.5. I go to a top engineering school that is not a target for IB recruiting so I don't think the banks will care about the rigor of my major and school. Should I give up?
If you are serious about IB, why not transfer schools since you’re at a non-target? You can reset your GPA to some extent that way. I did transfer to a school that actually carried forward GPA from my first school, but I don’t think everywhere does that.
Good idea in principle, but I don't know of any targets that you can transfer into with a 2.5 GPA. If taking the transfer route, the best bet would be to transfer in as a junior and delay graduation by a semester/quarter–even then, most transfers at target schools come in with at least 3.7-3.8.
Realistically, recruiting with even a 3.5 at a non-target is going to be tough, and yes some doors will be closed in recruiting as a result of this (very likely won't get EB or top BBs). You'll probably get some leeway given you're in engineering but you're going to have to network like crazy and knock it out of the park on those calls. I would target and put a ton of effort into top MMs.
Realistically yes
