Should I retake SAT?

Hello there!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I thought I’d give it a go. Im applying for colleges to start next year and I took the SAT in August and got a 1380. The score is good enough for the school I want to get into but I think I can get a better score if I take the SAT again in November. Now the reason Im considering this is because it might look better on my CV and for internships. Is this true, and should I retake the SAT?

Thanks in advance.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights regarding retaking standardized tests like the SAT:

  1. Retaking the SAT:

    • If you believe you can significantly improve your score, it might be worth retaking the SAT. A higher score can enhance your resume and potentially make you more competitive for internships and job opportunities.
  2. Impact on Resume:

    • High standardized test scores can be a positive addition to your resume, especially if you are applying for competitive roles in finance or consulting. However, it's not the only factor; your resume is evaluated holistically, including your GPA, work experience, and extracurricular activities.
  3. Alternative Options:

    • If you are already in college, focusing on excelling in your coursework and gaining relevant work experience might be more beneficial than retaking the SAT. Additionally, performing well on graduate-level tests like the GMAT or GRE can also enhance your profile if you plan to attend graduate school.
  4. Advice from WSO Threads:

    • One user mentioned that retaking the SAT/ACT in college is an option but not recommended in most scenarios. Instead, they suggest focusing on graduate-level tests if you plan to pursue further education.

In summary, if you are confident that you can achieve a higher SAT score, it may be worth retaking the test. However, consider balancing this effort with other aspects of your academic and professional development.
