Should I stop dreaming and focus on a different career path?

Long story short, I am wondering about my chances of getting into IB. I come from the most untraditional background regarding the IB recruiting process but the stubborn in me still thinks I can break in. Note: I want to break into IB because of pay, and the tremendous amount of skills and experience that comes with the job.

I went to a top public school, not target, and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Economics. I currently work full time as a Research & Product Development analyst for a large derivatives exchange.

A lot of my work involves the creation of content, client facing material, and even legal filings. The financial analysis I do does differ from IB but I feel that the skills I’ve learned are highly relevant and transferable.

In order to increase my chances, I was thinking of grinding hard and getting my CFA as well as a promotion to Senior Analyst before making the move into IB as a first year analyst.

What are my chances of breaking into IB? What can I do to better them? Are there other tracks that I can pursue that I should focus on instead? Any help is appreciated thanks!
