Anyone here with insights regarding Singapore-located IBs? Wanted to ask some questions:
1. How do they recruit? More from local schools (i.e. NUS, NTU, SMU) or do they place emphasis on US/UK graduates? How do they view other Asian schools- particularly those on exchange to Singapore?
2. In which divisions would South East Asian languages be most advantageous? Clear answers come to mind (e.g. sales and IBD) but is it really that important- for example in HK, Mandarin is a must for IBD. I was wondering if there were same "unspoken" rules here as well.
3. [Wall Street Mojo](https://www.wallstreetmojo.com/investment-banking…) seems to emphasize the importance of networking- to what extent is this true? Plus how big is the job market- are the number of summer interns almost the same as HK? Tokyo? Taipei?

I don't have much inside info but based on the conversations I've had while interviewing with some firms:
1) Most of my interviewers were Singaporean and from NUS/SMU (at least, all the juniors were for sure)
2) Have no idea
3) Much smaller than HK, I would think less than 5 per firm. (The BB I'm at had 4).
I see, plus what do you think about Asian targets- do they place well in Singapore? I was thinking to go on exchange to NUS/SMU in order to network. Do you think it's a good idea?

Personally, I have never encountered any decent headhunters willing to proactively advance the cause of someone that junior (I'm in the same position as you, except that I am currently in the S&T of a BB).
Do also bear in mind (assuming you're working elsewhere and on wages that are universally recognised as market rate) that firms in S'pore (especially the less reputable ones) have a habit of not being able/unwilling to meet similar demands for someone that junior.

I hear you. I'm hoping to work for a Singaporean office of a BB type PE shop though so hopefully that is a little different. I have a few friends who were able to get jobs at BB PE funds in HK (KKR, Blackstone, TPG) through U.S and HK recruiters and I was hoping there might be something similar for Singapore roles.

KKR don't have office in Singapore. Their deals are originated in HK usually. More mega funds have their office in HK rather than in Sing. You may consider HK as your second choice.

Except Temasek and GIC, there is really not much going on in Singapore PE... Just go for HK
those are sovereign wealth funds... i think it's a little different from the usual PE firms we are familiar with... I'm from Singapore, and I've heard that the rigidities and culture isn't really very satisfactory...
