Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

Need some advice on what my next step (if any) should be in regards to an experienced analyst position at a boutique IB. Here is the timeline of events...

  • Tuesday, May 25: First round phone interview with HR. Told they are interviewing 7 candidates and they will bring in 3 candidates for 2nd round interview. I will know on Thursday or Friday if I made it.

  • Wednesday, May 26: I guess they liked me, because I am told I made it to the second round. Also, use my network to speak to a current analyst at the firm.

  • Tuesday, June 1: 2nd round in person interview at firm. Goes well. HR contact e-mails me in the evening to see how I thought it went....responded positively and expressed my continued interest in the opportunity.

  • Wednesday, June 2: Friend of the analyst at the firm who I spoke to on 5/26 tells my friend that she heard very positive feedback about my interview.

  • Friday, June 4: I e-mail HR contact to see when I should expect to hear about next steps. She lets me know that feedback on my interview was very good. They interviewed final candidate that day. Should hear something on Monday, June 7.

  • Thursday June, 10: Haven't heard anything, so I e-mail HR contact. Says they are still discussing and she will let me know about next steps ASAP.

This brings me to the present. What the hell do I do? Everything was pointing to positive signs - open communication, good feedback, etc. Why the wait now? Is there anything I can do from this point? I have used up all my bullets regarding e-mailing my HR contact. Do I just have to sit back and stare at my phone all day?

Thanks in advance for any input.

ahh i hate that feeling... starting at the phone wishing they would put you out of this misery... stay strong man

move on. continue your job hunting.

experience sharing: i was rejected for a BB position despite all the positive signs you mentioned (the MD even discussed the contract details with me and promised blah blah blah). two months later i heard the position was filled by a relationship hire.

nothing is definite until you really get the job. good luck
