Some advice would be appreciated

I'll make this short. Graduated last May with a B.A. in Political Science with coursework and internship experience in only that area. Now, I want to go into finance/investment with the ultimate goal at present being equity research, something else in IB, prop trading, or other AM job. I know it's broad. I live in CT by the way, close to the NY border and moving is definitely an option.

I passed the SIE and Series 65 because I wanted to show employers that I was serious. How do you guys recommend I go about my job search? How do I get a start that might set me up for moves down the line? My aunt who is in wealth management suggested trying to find a sales assistant position to a broker. A LinkedIn contact who also does wealth management at JPM suggests something similar but ideally for client advisers in private banking at JPM, BoA, or GS because he thinks that is where I may be able to get some connections to leverage into IB down the line. What do you guys think of those ideas?

What ACTIONABLE steps would you recommend I take? Also, I'm still learning the jargon of the industry and I'm not clear what some terms might mean, so talk real slow. I'm just trying to get my start- I work hard but I'm tired of doing so for $10/hour in retail. Any help from you guys would be appreciated before I neck myself. Thanks.
