Sophomore at non target
Hey guys. I have a couple of questions. Is it ok if I don’t get an internship this summer? Also, how do/did you guys find local internships?

Always good to get work experience if you can. Obviously it's hard to get a first internship when you have zero work experience but hopefully you did something in high school to show you have some leadership skills. Next ask people you know if they know anyone who works in banking. My dads college roommate became the Head of Retail Banking for a regional bank in my home state. It's not investment banking by any means but at least my resume would have a bank on it and he was willing to help me get my first internship there. Just try to take advantage of connections. Having experience between Sophomore and Junior year will definitely help with SA recruiting.
Thank you! What do I do if I don’t have any connects to the finance world? ( specifically regarding internships for the upcoming summer)
Make sure your LinkedIn looks nice and take advantage of your alumni network. You mentioned you go to a non-target but someone somewhere probably works in a finance gig. Theres also nothing wrong with working a non-finance job over the summer. Plenty of people have gone from waiting tables to getting an SA offer the following year. Maybe even go to a small business and ask if they need any help managing their books and you could put "Utilized Excel" on your resume and do some basic accounting.
Thank you. I’ve been networking a lot with alumni, and I’ve thought about reaching out to local firms in my homework and attempting to network with people there and “asking” for a job/internship over summer. Do you think that’s a good idea?
Absolutely a good idea. Or even if there are small wealth management advisors, or credit unions, or literally anything around you, find their website and reach out to someone saying, "Hello, my is blank, a sophomore at blank university. I am seeking a summer internship in the finance industry to help get me started with building relevant work experience and was wondering if your firm offers any opportunities. Thank you." do this for as many firms as you can and hopefully at least one will work out.
