I'm always wary of the shenanigans interviewers play on candidates, but can you catch them in the act ?, I've often asked myself.
The interviewer might not only put YOU in an awkward position unnecessary, but in group settings they may employ questionable tactics to ding you in favor of a preselected candidate. For motive of personal gain / to do somebody a favor, you get barraged with anything but the "equal" treatment the law is supposed to afford you.
Maybe you don't have the looks, you don't have the connections, or they just simply do not like your haircut that morning.
